In the heart of the city of Marseille and the Old Port, La Criée, Marseille’s national theatre, was founded in May 1981 and takes its name from the old fish market.
Behind its listed façade, this national drama centre directed by Macha Makeïeff, has the most beautiful stage in Marseille with a large 800-seat auditorium, as well as a 280-seat modular auditorium and a completely renovated hall. The theatre offers around sixty shows each season.
